OFF-ROADERS ARE OFF THE CHARTS AT THE 2016 NEW YORK AUTO SHOW

New York, NY – (March 18, 2016):  With their extra interior room, high seating position and available all-wheel-drive, crossovers, SUVs and trucks are one of the most popular vehicle segments at the 2016 New York International Automobile Show.  In addition to offering ride, handling and performance characteristics similar to cars, they can also offer increased flexibility with some models able to carry up to eight or nine passengers in relative comfort.  

Here is a look at some of the most exciting new crossover, SUVs and trucks at this year’s New York Auto Show:   

BMW X1: The all-new BMW X1 features more interior space for passengers and luggage and additional connectivity.  The BMW X1 xDrive28i will feature a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine producing 228 horsepower mated to an 8 speed Steptronic automatic transmission, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds. The engine is coupled with the new BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and newly developed chassis technology, which enhances sporting ability and ride.

FORD ESCAPE: The new Escape includes a refreshed look and the latest driver-assist technologies, connectivity and two new EcoBoost® engines. It is the first Ford vehicle to make Auto Start/Stop technology standard with either of two new-to-Escape EcoBoost engines – a 1.5-liter EcoBoost and a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged EcoBoost.  Available features in the Escape include SYNC® Connect mobile access and driver-assist technologies such as adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, a lane-keeping system, and Enhanced Active Park Assist.

MERCEDES-BENZ GLC: The second generation of the midsize Mercedes-Benz SUV gets more than a renaming to GLC from GLK; this new SUV is an entirely different, larger and more capable vehicle. The GLC300 and GLC300 4MATIC are powered by a new turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that is teamed to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The GLC offers 4MATIC all-wheel drive for impressive agility and traction on a variety of road surfaces. 

GMC SIERRA 1500: The new look for the Sierra 1500 gets a new look and some special equipment packages such as the Elevation and All Terrain, while also introducing significant lighting technology upgrades. The new Sierra gets available Lane Keep Assist, which helps keep the truck in its lane with subtle steering enhancements, and IntelliBeam headlamp control, which automatically adjusts the high beams for oncoming traffic. Both are added to the Driver Alert Package that’s available on SLT and Sierra Denali models.

BENTLEY BENTAYGA: Designed, engineered and handcrafted in England, the new Bentley is powered by a mighty all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine that combines efficiency and refinement with ultra-luxurious levels of power and torque. With 600 horsepower delivering a 0-60 mph time of 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 187 mph, the Bentayga is the world’s most powerful and fastest SUV.

BUICK ENVISION: The 2016 Envision is an all-new luxury compact crossover with refined driving dynamics, and advanced technology. Powered by a 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo engine with stop/start technology, it is a global vehicle, designed from the ground up as a Buick luxury compact crossover.

CADILLAC XT5: The first-ever Cadillac XT5 has been designed as a bold, distinctive, sophisticated crossover vehicle with superb driving dynamics. The XT5 will be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that has been completely redesigned and features Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology, which allows the engine to seamlessly and automatically switch to a fuel-saving 4-cylinder mode under low or moderate loads.  With an estimated peak output of 310-horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, the new V6 uses variable valve timing for strong response and smooth power delivery.

CHRYSLER PACIFICA:  The all-new Chrysler Pacifica was engineered from the ground up on an all-new platform and boasts the largest interior volume in the segment, with clever storage, and available eight-passenger seating. The all-new Pacifica is available with a choice of two powerful, efficient and advanced powertrains–the segment's first hybrid vehicle, and the next generation of the Pentastar V-6 gasoline engine, which is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.  The Pacifica Hybrid, the industry's first electrified minivan, will deliver an estimated range of 30 miles solely on zero-emissions electric power from a 16-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. In city driving, it is expected to achieve an efficiency rating of 80 MPGe. 

FORD F-150 RAPTOR SuperCrew: The all-new F-150 Raptor SuperCrew, adds agility, versatility and roominess for 2016. With its 145-inch wheelbase, the new Raptor is 12 inches longer than the standard model and is powered by a high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine which is rated at 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.  It is paired with an all-new 10-speed transmission for improved efficiency. An all-new four-wheel-drive, torque-on-demand transfer case, with advanced, easy-to-use off-road mode driver-assist technology, further improves Raptor’s performance so it is easy to drive off-road across varying terrain.

HONDA RIGDELINE: With the all-new Ridgeline designed, developed and manufactured in America, the new Ridgeline offers incredible versatility, capability and comfort in a midsize pickup.  All-weather traction is provided courtesy of its unibody construction, sophisticated chassis, and available i-VTM4™ torque-vectoring AWD system.  Innovative and class-exclusive features, including an In-Bed Trunk™, dual-action tailgate and the industry's first in-bed audio system – making Ridgeline the ultimate tailgating vehicle. 

RANGE ROVER EVOQUE CONVERTIBLE: The all-new Range Rover Evoque Convertible expands the Land Rover brand to a new audience of customers looking for a unique combination of open-air driving and luxurious refinement. In keeping with the design found in the five-door and coupe derivatives of the fixed-roof Range Rover Evoque, the new convertible retains versatility, comfort and all-terrain capability.

GMC ACADIA: The new Acadia is 700-lb. lighter and includes an expanded range of active safety features, including Front Pedestrian Braking and Surround Vision Camera. New powertrains include a 2.5-liter and 310-hp 3.6-liter V-6 combined with an advanced AWD system with Active Twin Clutch.

JAGUAR F-PACE: The F-PACE is the first SUV from the Jaguar brand and is powered by a choice of a 340- or 380-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6 mated to an 8-speed transmission with power being routed to all four wheels via a torque-on-demand all-wheel drive system will be available at launch.

KIA SPORTAGE: The new fourth-generation Sportage compact crossover features advanced driver assistance technologies, significant suspension and steering improvements, and available intelligent AWD. Available in front or all-wheel-drive, both coupled with a six-speed Sportmatic transmission, the new Sportage is powered by either a 241 horsepower 2.0-liter inline-four turbo found on the SX Turbo or a normally aspirated 181 horsepower 2.4-liter engine.

MASERATI LEVANTE: The first SUV in Maserati’s more than one hundred year history is designed to combine the outstanding on-road performance of a Maserati and an excellent off-road performance and ride. The new SUV boasts sophisticated electronic suspension with controlled damping and air springs, which can be set on several levels, “Q4” intelligent all-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic transmission specially calibrated for the brand's new SUV.

MAZDA CX-9: The new CX-9 offers elevated experience with innovative technologies, new SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine and premium new interior materials. The CX-9 has a new turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine that delivers instant throttle response, impressive torque and an estimated 20-percent increase in fuel- efficiency.

MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SPORT: The redesigned Outlander boasts a new front end design and interior improvements that include a redesigned steering wheel, new 6.1" Display Audio, new seat fabrics, new power folding side mirrors with LED turn indicators and a new 18-inch alloy wheel design. The more powerful 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is available in all 2016 Outlander Sport models, as is Mitsubishi's All-Wheel Control (AWC) System.

Volvo XC90: The Volvo XC90 is a visually striking, luxury, seven seat SUV that boasts world-leading safety features, new powertrain technologies that provide an impressive combination of power and fuel efficiency, and a superlative interior finish.
