New York International Auto Show Announces Transportation And Mobility Conference
Technology and mobility news events proliferate at the 2017 NYIAS Press Days

NEW YORK, Feb. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York international Auto Show announced today the inaugural Empire State of Mobility Conference taking place at the Jacob Javits Center on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in advance of the 10-day public auto show.

Technology is revolutionizing urban, personal mobility through innovations such as ubiquitous sensor technology on the ground, vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle communication, pedestrian and cyclist detection and avoidance systems and self-driving electric shuttles among others.

As the most densely populated US city and the home of the world's financial industry, New York is the natural location for a conference focused on how private/public partnerships will fund the major infrastructure improvements necessary to created connected mobility.

"The US Department of Transportation awarded $50 million to Columbus, Ohio as part of its Smart City Challenge, but another $90 million came from a local business coalition as well as a sizable portfolio of hardware, software and support services from technology companies," said Mark Schienberg, president, Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association.  "Keeping that momentum of collaboration is what we want this conference to help drive."

Specifically, the conference will address how to fund and turn fundamental shifts in mobility into lucrative business opportunities, promote access to jobs, make logistics smarter, connect visitors, empower citizens and make transportation more sustainable.

In addition to the one-day conference and dozens of technology news announcements expected from the automakers exhibiting at the New York International Auto Show, several other mobility related events are taking place.

  • Tuesday, April 11 – The Automotive Forum conference, hosted by NADA, J.D. Power and the New York Auto Show, will address issues impacting the future of transportation. http://www.autoforumny.com
